Forest Life - Project

The project LIFE ENVIRONMENTAL GOVERNANCE AND INFORMATION (LIFE14 GIE/GR/000304), entitled ForestLife “Building cooperation, developing skills and sharing knowledge for Natura 2000 forests in Greece” is implemented by the Goulandris Natural History Museum / Greek Biotope – Wetland Centre (GNHM-EKBY) in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Directorate General of Forests and Forest Environment.

The project started in July 2015 and is expected to be completed in July 2021. The project budget amounts to EUR 1,060,536. It is co-funded by the LIFE financial instrument of the European Community and the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Directorate General of Forests and Forest Environment.

The results of the project are expected to be the following:

The Project

  • The enhancement of the personnel of forest services and other organisations, through training and awareness-raising actions, in order to apply sound management measures in forest Natura 2000 sites in the country.
  • The strengthening of a social coalition (forest managers, users, residents etc) for the conservation and sustainable management of Natura 2000 forests.
  • The increase on the levels of information and awareness of target groups and wide public, as well as the change in the attitudes and behaviours of target groups and the public to more environmental – friendly, contributing to compliance with environmental legislation, in forest Natura 2000 sites.
